Grazie infinite, Ettore

I was going to sit here and laud the praises of the new furniture pieces at the Anthropolgie store when I happened upon the news that Ettore Sottsass passed away yesterday at the age of 90. Ettore was one the great Italian designers and the founder of the unforgettable Memphis movement.  Unfortunately, most Americans might be most familiar with the style of the Memphis movement from the pseudo-Memphis decor in the movie “Ruthless People” with Bette Midler and Danny Devito.

But, design geeks like me remember him from his work on the Olivetti typewriter and his iconic, bright, and geometric furniture pieces that defined the 80’s.
